The 2000s being a turbulent decade for not just Pakistan but worldwide, the combination of terrorism had seemed to reached new heights, and natural disasters becameunremitting. A large number of citizens found themselves fleeing their own homes due to the uncompromising conditions.
Two major earthquakes and several floods along with a drought resulted in a considerable amount of the population getting displaced. Suffering that goes beyond words was endured by the ones who were affected:coping with the loss of not only livestock and livelihood but life itself.
With the unrelenting support of Mr Bashir Dawood & Mariyam Dawood, The Dawood Foundation became an eminent contributor to the relief effort in Pakistan.
For decades, their foundation has proved to be of assistance on the provision of relief-aid to those who were in need of it.
Supporting Educational Initiatives
Founded in 1986, The Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB) upon its unveiling, had the advantage of being the very first school to operate at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS).
SDSB was funded significantly by Bashir Dawood & Mariyam Dawood, with the school even named after Mr Bashir’s father. It was founded on the insight of providingreal-world knowledge to the Pakistani youth with the help of challenging and relevant curriculum over traditional educational approaches.
SDSB is backed by a “Visiting Committee” of academics and administrators from all over the world. These representatives come from some of the most prestigious global institutions such as Cambridge, Stanford, McGill and the Asian Institute of Management among others.
With the youth population in Pakistan is augmenting exponentially, the requirement to make sure quality education is accessed by all increases with every passing year.
Eminent philanthropists Bashir Dawood & Mariyam Dawood have played a big part in facilitating the development and expansion of various educational institutions. Keeping in mind the Pakistani youth, these institutions were built to provide them with the support and care needed to learn and thrive in this world.
Supporting Medical Studies in Pakistan
Mr Bashir Dawood has also provided a great deal of support to aspiring medical field workers. The integration of numerous surgical facilities into the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) in Karachi has also been facilitated by him.
Refractive Laser Suite
In November 2016, AKUH developed a refractive laser suite to treat the citizens of Pakistan with visual disorders. This suite was blessed with innovative equipment designed to provide minimally invasive surgical treatment options through procedures such as the LASIK.
